Folio requires identity verification to confirm that Experts are the licensed professionals and students they represent themselves to be. Verification builds trust with hiring managers and unlocks full platform access.

You can verify your identity during onboarding (Step 4) or at any time from Settings > Verification.

Verification Options

Only one verification method is required, though you may complete more than one.

Identity Verification (Stripe)

Folio uses Stripe's identity verification system to confirm your identity via a government-issued ID. Click Verify My Identity to begin the Stripe-guided flow.

  • Best for: All Experts who want a verified identity badge

  • Requires: Government-issued photo ID

NPI Verification

Enter your NPI (National Provider Identifier) number and click Verify NPI. Folio validates the number against the NPI registry.

  • Best for: Licensed physicians and other NPI-eligible healthcare providers

  • Requires: Valid NPI number

University Email Verification

Enter your university-issued email address and click Verify Email Address. Folio sends a verification link to that address.

  • Best for: Medical and health profession students

  • Requires: Active university email account

Work ID or Professional License

Upload a photo of your employer badge or professional license document. Folio reviews the submission manually.

  • Best for: Clinicians and allied health professionals without an NPI

  • Accepted: Badge photos, license cards, and professional license documents

  • Not accepted: Headshots, selfies, or personal photos

Verification Status

Each verification method displays one of the following statuses in Settings > Verification:

For Work ID / Professional License uploads, the most common reason is submitting a photo that does not clearly show the document. Ensure the image is well-lit and the text is legible. Headshots and selfies are not accepted.
